Single Mode Fiber G657A1 vs G657A2: What is the difference?
1/ What is the Single Mode Fiber (SMF)?
- Single mode fiber is a type of optical fiber that only allows optical signals to be transmitted in one mode.
- It has a smaller core than multimode fiber, with a core diameter generally between 8-10 μm, low dispersion, high bandwidth, and can achieve lower attenuation and longer transmission distance.
- ITU-T (International Telecommunication Union) has defined different single mode fiber standards, including G.652, G.653, G.654, G.655, G.656, and G.657. Among them, the most widely used standards in the market are G652D Fiber, G657A1 Fiber, and G657A2 Fiber.
2/ What are differences between G657A1 FIber and G657A2 Fiber?
- G657A1 Fiber: G657A1 Fiber is a single mode fiber type optimized for special application scenarios (higher fiber density cabling requirements), and belongs to the ITU-T G.657 standard. As a reliable high-performance bending insensitive single mode fiber, G657A1 fiber has superior bending performance compared to G652D fiber, with a minimum bending radius of 10mm without affecting performance. This makes it very suitable for application in space constrained scenarios.
- G657A2 Fiber: G657A2 fiber is another bending insensitive single mode fiber type under the ITU-T G.657 standard, which has further optimization compared to G657A1 fiber. Its main advantage lies in superior bending characteristics, with a minimum bending radius of 7.5mm. The emergence of G657A2 fiber further optimizes the fiber performance for special scenarios, and the more professional small bend application fiber is very suitable for high-density wiring in narrow space applications.

EasyBand® Low Loss Bending Insensitive Single-mode Fiber is suitable for optical transmission systems which operates over the entire wavelength window from 1260 nm to 1625 nm. It is an advanced product of YOFC bending insensitive fiber, which possesses all advantages of Low Loss Fiber, and also improves anti-bending properties, combines low loss and bending insensitive properties. EasyBand® Low Loss Bending Insensitive Single-mode Fiber is fully compatible with standard normal single-mode Fiber, and thoroughly meets multiple demands of multi-channel, high bit-rate, long distance transmission and anti-bending properties. |
EasyBand® Plus bending insensitive single-mode fiber combines two attractive features: excellent low macro-bending sensitivity and low water-peak level. It is comprehensively optimized for use in O-E-S-C-L band (1260 -1625 nm). The EasyBand® Plus's bending insensitive feature not only guarantees L-band applications but also allows for easy installation without excessive care when storing the fiber especially for FTTH networks application. Bending radii in fiber guidance ports can be reduced as well as minimum bend radii in wall and corner mountings.
