Product Description
  • OTDR Testing Fiber Optic Launch Cable (also known as a pulse suppressor, dead zone eliminator, or fiber ring) is a critical testing component placed between the Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) and the fiber under test (FUT).
  • It provides a known reference spool of fiber that shifts the OTDR’s initial dead zone completely into the launch box, allowing the technician to accurately measure the insertion loss and reflectance of the first near-end connector pair
OTDR Testing Fiber Optic Launch Cable Features
  • Length Determination: The length must exceed the distance of the OTDR's launch pulse/dead zone.
  • Premise/FTTx Testing (Short pulses, ≤ 500 ns): Generally utilizes lengths between 150 meters to 300 meters.
  • Broadband / Long-Haul Testing (Longer pulses, up to 20 μs): Requires lengths from 500 meters to over 2,000 meters.
  • Fiber Geometry Matching: The internal glass must identically match the network link-under-test to prevent mode-field mismatch or artificial loss signatures. Standard specifications include Singlemode (G652D or bend-insensitive G657A1 / G657A2) and Multimode (50/125μm OM3/OM4 or 62.5/125μm OM1).
  • Connector Configuration: Lead ends are typically distinct. Side A mates directly with the OTDR output bulkhead (often SC/APC to minimize instrument backreflection), while Side B must match the exact polish type (UPC or APC) and form factor (SC, LC, FC, ST) of the patch panel or distribution frame.
